FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Bentwood?+
Bentwood is Jan Berger's brand for handmade wedding rings, engagement rings and jewellery in wood, combined with precious metal and diamonds. Every piece is made individually in our own workshop.
Is Bentwood the same as Berger Schmuck Bentwood GmbH?+
Yes. Bentwood is the brand name; legally, Berger Schmuck Bentwood GmbH, based in Lohn SH, stands behind it.
What kinds of rings does Bentwood make?+
The core product is handcrafted wedding rings and engagement rings made of and with wood, individually designed as a personal one-of-a-kind piece. The rings are combined with diamonds, gold, platinum, stainless steel and much more. There is also matching jewellery such as hoop earrings, cufflinks, necklaces and bracelets.
What wood are the rings made from?+
Bentwood works with well over 30 different types of wood from all over the world, including plum, walnut, cherry, rosewood, zebrano and wenge. You can also bring us your own wood. That's possible too!
Where does Bentwood's gold come from?+
The gold is recycled Swiss scrap gold. Out of ecological and ethical responsibility, we deliberately avoid newly mined precious metal.
Does Bentwood have a patent?+
Bentwood currently has patent pending status: after more than ten years of development and five years of working with specialised lawyers, the process has been filed for a patent, but it has not yet been granted.
How much do wedding rings in wood from Bentwood cost?+
Pairs of rings start at CHF 1,500 with us. What it comes to in the end depends on what you wish for: the type of wood, precious metal, diamonds and the effort involved in making them. In a free consultation we'll find the range that feels right for you together.
I have to disinfect my hands every day. Will the ring hold up?+
Yes. Our rings are treated with a resin that disinfectant, nail polish remover or cleaning thinner cannot harm.
What does the price of a Bentwood ring depend on?+
On three factors: the design and construction, the material you choose, and any diamonds.
How much does an engraving cost extra?+
An engraving costs between CHF 150 and CHF 400, depending on the motif and the effort involved, for example a fingerprint, mountain ranges or logos.
How long does it take until I receive my rings?+
At least 6 to 8 weeks for the production alone. The full process, with a trial ring, 3D visualisation and a second conversation, can take up to 6 months.
Is there a guarantee on the rings?+
Yes, Bentwood gives a lifetime guarantee against defects in material and construction. Refreshing the ring is also always free of charge.
What is not covered by the guarantee?+
Excessive wear, size adjustments, design changes, later additions and later engraving are not part of the free guarantee, but are possible as an additional service.
Do wooden rings absorb water in everyday life?+
No. Thanks to the way they are made, the rings can be worn without a problem when washing your hands, showering or doing the dishes, and also in the sea, in the sauna or in a mountain lake.
How do I find my right ring size?+
It's best to have your ring size determined by a professional such as a jeweller, or to visit Bentwood in person. Alternatively, there is the free Multisizer, which we send to you.
What is the Multisizer and how do I get one?+
The Multisizer is a free measuring tool from Bentwood, more accurate than a paper strip. After a short online quiz, it is sent to you by post.
Can I still have my ring engraved afterwards?+
Yes, a later engraving is possible at Bentwood, for example at short notice before a wedding ceremony.
Are Bentwood rings really Swiss made?+
Yes, the rings carry the Swiss Label certificate and are made largely in our own workshop in Switzerland.
Where can I get a consultation at Bentwood?+
In person in Lohn SH or Oftringen AG, or online by video call of about 30 minutes. The consultation is always free of charge.
Is Bentwood at wedding fairs?+
Yes, in the 2026/27 season we'll be at nine wedding fairs in person, from Bern to Stuttgart. All dates and a free ticket are available at start.bentwood.ch/messe-tickets.
